Earlobe surgery can repair earlobe problems like split earlobe or stretched earlobe.

Prolonged use of heavy earrings can take its toll on your earlobes. The ear holes become elongated and sometimes can even split the earlobe. Now at Dezire clinic, Delhi, there is a fast, easy and virtually painless solution to fix the problem of elongated or split earlobes.

What are the causes of split or elongated or torn earlobes?

  • Earlobes can get elongated holes due to prolonged use of earrings making them elongated
  • Sometimes earlobes can become split due to accidental pulling of earrings while wearing them.
  • Another reason for split earlobe is tribal ear piercing, also known as flesh tunnel. When the earlobe is stretched to more than 8mm with a tribal ear piercing, it is unlikely that the hole will fully contract to its original size. As a result the earlobe becomes abnormally shaped which is often difficult to hide with hair, especially for men with shorter hairstyles. If you feel that your stretched or split earlobes are affecting your appearance, social life and career, our expert surgeons at Dezire clinic Delhi can provide the solution. Many of our patients tell us stories of increased confidence in their appearance following surgery.

Earlobe repair procedure

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and  completed in less than an hour.

The procedure begins with the earlobe being made numb using local anesthetic via injection.

For a ear lobe that is torn, the procedure consists of “freshening” the edges. To achieve this small amount of skin is removed and then two edges are sutured to create normal looking earlobe.

Another technique used  for earlobe split repair is with rotation flap. This is a type of skin reconstruction in which semicircular skin flap is rotated to cover the split. The advantage of this technique is that patients can safely and conveniently wear earrings two weeks post procedure instead of having to wait up to six months with the standard procedure. This procedure is usually completed in 30-40 minutes per earlobe.

To change the shape of the earlobe, unwanted tissue is removed and the area is sutured to look normal.

Earlobe repair aftercare and recovery

After your stretched earlobe repair there will be a small dressing on your earlobe which can be removed the next day. An antibiotic cream needs to be applied topically over the sutures. Sutures will need to be removed 10 days after the repair procedure. Healing generally takes 4 to 6 weeks. Earlobes can be repierced after 6 months by ear piercing gun.

Since this procedure is a day care procedure performed under local anesthesia, patient can return home or to work immediately after the procedure.

This is a minimally invasive procedure with virtually no scar left behind. With the skills of experienced plastic surgeon like Dr Prashant Yadav, the scar is almost invisible to naked eye.
